Black Methodist Denominations Unveil Male Investment Plan

Columbia, SC (March 3, 2010) – The nation’s three largest Black Methodist denominations, the AME, AME Zion and CME Churches, developed and presented today, their plan to address the plight of African American males.  The program, called The Male Investment Plan was presented to the entire body assembled in the Carolina Coliseum for the Great Gathering.  In unveiling the Male Investment Plan, Bishop Warren Brown, AME Zion Chair of Bishops told the assemblage, “We are going to leave this place united and committed, and I know it’s going to be a success because all of you here are going to do your part to make it work.”

Meet For First Time in More Than 45 Years

Unified Group to Develop African American Male Initiative

 Raleigh, NC (February 10, 2010) – The nation’s three largest Black Methodist denominations, the AME, AME Zion and CME Churches, with combined memberships of more than 5 million, will convene at a historic gathering next month in Columbia, South Carolina.  The ultimate goal of the gathering is to “Address the plight of the African American male and his critical role in America’s families and communities.”

Black Methodist Denominations Form Coalition

To Address Plight of African American Males

For First Time in 45 Years, Church Groups Unite to Develop Remedies and Programs

Washington, DC (February 1, 2010) – On Tuesday, February 9th, the nation’s three largest Black Methodist Church denominations (combined memberships of over 5 million) will announce the formation of a historic coalition and plans to hold a major strategy summit in Columbia, SC, March 1-3, 2010. Entitled the “Great Gathering,” the strategy session will address how to stem the tide of incarceration, escalating unemployment, high drop out rates, and the many other ills plaguing African American males and the resulting devastation in the African American community. The press conference will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the National Press Club’s First Amendment Lounge.
